We find ourselves in quite the predicament. The powerful have been beyond successful in their commitment to keep us divided. The tools they have at their disposal, such as the media and political charades, have been used against us in every imaginable way possible and it’s far past the point of concern. We’re about to be tested and it will dictate the future of our species.
We’ve been pinned against one another and for good reason; if we were a united front, the powerful would stand no chance. We greatly outnumber them, and they need our compliance and obedience to maintain their power. So how do we truly unite? How do we bring together people of different backgrounds, cultures, races, genders, eras and beliefs?
I’ve lived in different parts of the world and no matter where I was, whether it be in the mountains of Thailand, a village in Tanzania or a city in the US, I found that people are far more similar than they are different. We all want our basic needs met. We want to be safe and healthy. We want to love and be loved. We want to be understood and respected. We want freedom.
If we can appeal to our commonalities instead of focusing on our differences, we can see ourselves in others. It won’t be until we utilize the power of our own humanity that we can begin to heal all the pain that’s been purposefully manufactured between us. Empathy will be the tool that we will use against the powerful. Their lack of it is their weakness, as they are too concerned with their greed and their power to recognize that they, too, are only human.
Unfortunately, time is not a luxury we have. The powerful have taken drastic measures over the past two years to ensure that they will have full control over our lives. Which is why we must be purposeful in harnessing our humanity. We have to be committed to understanding, to listening, to collaborating, to empathizing and to admitting that we can be wrong. If we stay focused on our commonalities and our shared goals, I believe we can be far more powerful than we realize.
We have a choice to make. Do we allow the powerful to con us into thinking our problems stem from our neighbors instead of from them? Or do we see through all of the propaganda, manipulation and indoctrination that has been forced upon us and fight together for our survival? We still have a chance and a really good one at that, if we can put our differences aside and embrace our shared humanity.
